The Veiled Lady

This white marble bust of a veiled woman on display in the front hall was owned by Will Jr., William Henry Seward’s son. Purchased by William H. Seward II in 1888 during a trip to Italy. Artist unknown however the Veiled Lady was a very popular design in the 19th century that allowed sculptors an opportunity to show off their talent by carving marble to look like a face underneath a light layer of fabric
